On My Mind: Recycling

by Sama

Here I am reading my “Do Not Litter essay.” My essay was one of the finalists.

We have to do something about littering now. I would like to share my essay that won as one of the top finalists for the “Do Not Litter” essay contest. I hope you enjoy:

Littering is a big challenge we face now in our world. We all need work together to find some solutions. I would encourage the kids who are the same age or bigger than me to help clean up in my neighborhood (under supervision) for at least 2 hours every weekend to give people the idea to stop littering. I would also put up these signs everywhere that would say “Stop littering! Keep the world healthier and stronger for our future!” I would also spread out the word of the idea that each person should carry an  empty bag to put his or her wastes in it instead of throwing them on the ground. We can also persuade the government to make a law that who ever litters, has to pay a fine, and has to help the community for cleaning for at least 10 hours. We have to do something or we might not have a tomorrow! Communities can’t clean themselves, which is why we have to help make our community a better place! Maybe you can also help spread the word, tell everyone around you, so we can all have a better, brighter, cleaner future!

School Event: Chorus

The P.S. 102 Bayview Chorus made up of  65 talented singers in fourth and fifth grade had many events to end 2016.

On December 14th, they walked with  Ms. Mealing and Mrs. Weitz to the Bay Ridge Senior Center located on 4th Avenue.  About 60 seniors were entertained with holiday songs including “Jingle Bells”, “Feliz Navidad,” “Winter Wonderland” and many more.

Chorus members also got a chance to interview the seniors about their lives. Interestingly, most of the seniors that were interviewed were also in chorus when they were little. The seniors were very impressed with the singing and were glad that the Chorus members volunteered to spread some holiday spirit and joy with them. According to Ms. Mealing the seniors loved the performance so much that they wanted them to come more frequently.

The busy season for the Chorus members continued on December 22 when the kindergartners were glowing with joy when the big, red, jolly Santa came to get them in the holiday spirit during the dress rehearsal!  Later that night a packed auditorium was treated to the annual Winter concert. On December 23, chorus members entertained students with two assemblies. All students were so happy and excited that the shouts of joy and excitement spread the auditorium, especially when Santa was dancing with the teachers and giving high-fives to the children!!

The Peace Concert is coming up and all chorus members are all practicing for the big day to show everyone peace!
