On My Mind: Recycling

by Sama

Here I am reading my “Do Not Litter essay.” My essay was one of the finalists.

We have to do something about littering now. I would like to share my essay that won as one of the top finalists for the “Do Not Litter” essay contest. I hope you enjoy:

Littering is a big challenge we face now in our world. We all need work together to find some solutions. I would encourage the kids who are the same age or bigger than me to help clean up in my neighborhood (under supervision) for at least 2 hours every weekend to give people the idea to stop littering. I would also put up these signs everywhere that would say “Stop littering! Keep the world healthier and stronger for our future!” I would also spread out the word of the idea that each person should carry an  empty bag to put his or her wastes in it instead of throwing them on the ground. We can also persuade the government to make a law that who ever litters, has to pay a fine, and has to help the community for cleaning for at least 10 hours. We have to do something or we might not have a tomorrow! Communities can’t clean themselves, which is why we have to help make our community a better place! Maybe you can also help spread the word, tell everyone around you, so we can all have a better, brighter, cleaner future!

On My Mind: Fidget Spinners

by Ibrahim

Fidget spinners have been a craze the past few weeks of school, and I’m starting to think this may affect our grades. I think this because if kids are playing around with these all day, it may start to affect their focus on school. ( I, frankly have one myself, but I don’t play with it too much anymore…) Most of these spinners have been confiscated by teachers. If they collect these spinners, kids will focus more on trying to sneak these in.

So, that’s what I think about fidget spinners. I have one last message: Keep it at Home!

On My Mind: Fidget Spinners

by Lawshada

Fidget Spinners are banned by many teachers at school, but why? When I asked Mr. Bianco, a fifth grade teacher about them, he said he didn’t really think that they are classroom toy.  Other teachers say they are distracting…but what do students say?

I asked some students what they think about fidget spinners. Some say its “very relaxing and fun” and other say its “waste of money”. Fidget spinners are “supposed” to be a stress relieving toy. It comes in variety of colors and designs. The materials include stainless steal, brass, titanium, copper and plastic.

What are your thoughts about fidget spinners? Do you agree that they are relaxing and fun or do you think that they aren’t appropriate for school? Comment below and let me know.

The upcoming Roland Garros is the next tennis associated grand slam, and is also my favorite tournament for several reasons. The main reason for why it my favorite is because it takes place in Paris. I always loved the city of Paris, and hope to go one day. Another reason for why this is my favorite slam is because the surface of the court is clay which I believe is made from bricks. It is my favorite surface because you can slide, which is helpful is tennis, and because the balls bounc slower, which I like, because it gives me more time to hit the ball. I also love Roland Garros, because it has a legit prize money because the winner makes millions off the win, and even low ranked players who get eliminated in the first round of the tournament still get thousands! Also, the silver trophy is big, heavy, and shiny.

On My Mind: Spring Is On Its Way

by Stella

Wow it has been a warm winter- almost breaking world records. But now, bring on spring. March 20th will be the first day of spring. The weather will continue to get better. This time of the year also means that the state tests are coming for 3-5th graders, but lets not talk about that. Also coming with the arrival of spring, students will have another break. For this break, I personally think that more people are going to go to places because the weather will be warmer.

Spring will bring trees growing leaves and flowers blooming which will make some places look beautiful. See you soon spring!

Game Review: Nintendo Switch

by Kinhon

Nintendo has had many consoles over the years. One of the newest consoles is the Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch has many features. One of the new features is that the Nintendo Switch can play different Nintendo console games. Some console games that the Nintendo Switch can play is Wii U games, Wii, 3DS, and more. Another feature for the Nintendo Switch is that it is portable. The Nintendo Switch is not too big and not too small so you can bring it anywhere. The last feature is that you can play on the Nintendo Switch’s screen or you can play it on your T.V screen with a controller. I think all game lovers should get one of these consoles today.

On My Mind: Middle School Choices

Do you think middle school will be easy? Well I can change your mind heavily. Middle school is… NOT EASY, especially if you don’t listen. Middle school is obviously harder than elementary school.

According to what my sister, Stephanie said there is not much homework given in McKinley. To me, that sounds awesome! My sister, Christina that was in P.S/I.S 30 never told me if she got lots of homework or not, but I am sure that she got loads of homework. Based on just homework I think that McKinley would be a good fit for me.

However, I want to go to P.S/I.S 30. I want to go there because when I went with my mom to Parent Teacher Conferences for my sister, I got the chance to see the school and the teachers. The people that I met were pretty smart and seemed nice. I think that school could suit me well. I also think that I would enjoy staying there for a while.

I really like both of them, but I know that I can’t go to two schools. I know that I need to remember that not all schools will accept me.   We will soon enter middle school,  hopefully. The advice that I have for you is, good luck! We should listen to our teachers and hopefully we will successfully pass middle school.

On My Mind: Fashion Designs

I might be a designer when I grow up . I started designing when I was 7 years old. When I was 7  I did not know how to draw ruffly dresses but now I know how to make a ruffly dress!  I now have a design book and am almost done drawing all my designs. Usually, I do 3 designs a day.  I bring my designs to school to show my best friends.

I don’t know which job to choose. I have to choose between designer, writer/author, and a cartoonist. I have been inspired by many dresses like designer dresses and other unique dresses.

On My Mind: Fun Facts About Japan

by Irene

Japan’s Cartoons/Anime

Japanese cartoons are called anime. I have heard that not many Japanese cartoons are kid-appropriate so I am careful to only watch kid appropriate anime. I am inspired to draw all these Japanese anime. I find One Punch Man funny. My two cousins introduced me to this anime during the summer break. One Punch Man is a man that looks like a normal man, but bald. He wears a jumpsuit with a white cape and red boots and gloves. He is a super hero that defeats villains in one punch!

Sushi

I love sushi, but I only eat Dragon Rolls and Sweet Potato Tempura Rolls. I don’t know why I don’t like to try new types of sushi. They have Bento Boxes and salmon tempura. I find eels delicious. YUM! All sushi always includes rice and seaweed!

FACT:

Did you know that Japanese do not sleep on beds with legs? They have beds that are called Tatamis.Flat Transformation 6
