Book Review: Upside Down Magic-#1

by Amani

Finally, the 2nd book of the Upside Down Magic series has popped up! Since most students and people don’t understand the new book or haven’t even read the first, I’m here to give you a review about it!

Upside Down Magic is about a little girl named Nory, who has the power of  transforming herself into animals! As awesome as it sounds, her magic  is wonky, or how her teacher calls it, “Upside Down”, meaning backwards or wonky, because she isn`t used to controlling it properly. For example, she turns into two animals at the same time. She turned into a bitten, half beaver-kitten Nory, and a dritten, half dragon-kitten Nory. Other silly transformations, also get her in trouble. Nory needs to get ready for an exam to enter a school her siblings go to and her father works as assistant headmaster, named Sage Academy, which didn`t want a wonky student.

Nory is a funny, unpredictable, and friendly character in this book. She also tries her best to fit in with others, since there are people with different types of magic, such as Elliot, who has the power of fire.

I recommend  this book to anyone who loves fiction, magic, or science fiction. This book requires creativity, imagination, and it is unpredictable and believe me, the first time I read this book, I was so eager to finish it so I`d see what would happen next! The characters have different personalities, which makes the story more interesting and humorous!

School Event: Chorus

The P.S. 102 Bayview Chorus made up of  65 talented singers in fourth and fifth grade had many events to end 2016.

On December 14th, they walked with  Ms. Mealing and Mrs. Weitz to the Bay Ridge Senior Center located on 4th Avenue.  About 60 seniors were entertained with holiday songs including “Jingle Bells”, “Feliz Navidad,” “Winter Wonderland” and many more.

Chorus members also got a chance to interview the seniors about their lives. Interestingly, most of the seniors that were interviewed were also in chorus when they were little. The seniors were very impressed with the singing and were glad that the Chorus members volunteered to spread some holiday spirit and joy with them. According to Ms. Mealing the seniors loved the performance so much that they wanted them to come more frequently.

The busy season for the Chorus members continued on December 22 when the kindergartners were glowing with joy when the big, red, jolly Santa came to get them in the holiday spirit during the dress rehearsal!  Later that night a packed auditorium was treated to the annual Winter concert. On December 23, chorus members entertained students with two assemblies. All students were so happy and excited that the shouts of joy and excitement spread the auditorium, especially when Santa was dancing with the teachers and giving high-fives to the children!!

The Peace Concert is coming up and all chorus members are all practicing for the big day to show everyone peace!
