Fifth Grade Events

by Stella and Sara

There are many upcoming events for the fifth grade including Arista Archon, the dance, the senior trip, and graduation!

Arista Archon will be held on May 18 in the auditorium. There are two parts of the program, the Arista program, and the Archon program. To get into Arista, you have to achieve Honor Roll. In order to get into Archon you have to do community service. You have to do at least 2 hours per month. If you get over 50 hours you will get a pin and special recognition.

There is also the dance which will be on May 19, and which many fifth graders are excited for. Sara and I
both are also very excited, considering music is rarely ever played during school hours, we get to be with our friends, and we get to eat pizza and other delicious treats! Also, each fifth grader will be getting their own yearbook, in which will hold many memories throughout their time at PS102.

Around P.S. 102: Robotics Club

by Sara

Robotics club is an after school club open to fifth graders in which we learn to build robots. It’s actually more interesting than you might think.

During our first few weeks, we had to collect many different pieces from boxes that we needed to build a robot.
After that, for about 2 or 3 weeks my partner and I had to use a website that showed us instructions on how to put all of our pieces together. When we finally completed building our robot, our teacher, Ms. Scarpa, told us to watch videos from a website about how to teach our robot to do certain things. First, we had to teach our robot how to go straight. Then, we would go out into the hallway and use a measuring tape to tell how long our robot could go for a certain amount of time. After teaching our robot to go straight,we moved on to telling the robot to turn and follow a light sensor.

Fortunately, we haven’t finished the program yet. We have about three more weeks. I will make sure to keep you updated about what’s happening.

Need Advice? Let Me Help!

Pondering

Mikael Wiman via Compfight

Dear P.S. 102 Reader,

Everyone has something that bothers them. ThisĀ is the main reason why I’d like to give advice to anyone that asks for it. Half of you may read this, and half of you may not. But the half that do read this, feel free to ask for any advice that you wish. It can be about bullying, emotional problems, family problems, how to deal with problems, anything. If you don’t feel too comfortable with stating your name, you can use any name that you want. So, use your chance while you still can. Leave your questions in the comment box below!

Looking forward to helping you,

Sara
