A Chat with Ms. Andrinopoulos

by Emely

My teacher is Ms. Andrinopoulos. She has some goals for her class this year. She wants every student to try their best. Students are well behaved when we do math on the SmartBoard. Some students behave badly when they are not following directions and they play around. She likes S.S projects because students can make the house and all the people. She also likes doing art projects such as a Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day project. Her favorite students are everyone because everyone is special in some subject. Even when she yells it does not mean she doesn’t like them. She feels they have to learn what is right and what is wrong.

Ms. Sichenze Named Principal of P.S. 102

Lilly and Adrian met with Ms. Sichenze, shortly after she was named principal of P.S. 102

by Lilly and Adrian

Ms. Sichenze, our school’s new principal, has worked at P.S.102 for 28 years. She feels that becoming principal is a dream come true. Her favorite part about the school is everything. However, she feels that the students are so special and the teachers and staff are unbelievable.

Her goals as principal are to empower teachers, parents/families, and students to take an active role in making decisions at our school. As for the schools technology, she is working hard to make sure that every classroom has laptops and a Smartboard readily available. She would like to offer more after school enrichment programs. She said that these programs, “will inspire our young students to continually grow and spark their curiosity.” Ms. Sichenze believes that it is necessary for this begin in kindergarten.

The Chancellor wants students to get outside everyday, weather permitting. Ms. Sichenze agrees with the Chancellor that fresh air and physical activity helps students to learn when they get back to class.

Ms. Sichenze believes that our school day that begins at 8:20 and ends at 3:30 for many students is a good amount of time. “It is great for young students to have a well balanced day and visit the library, ride a bike, and spend time with family and friends after school,” said Ms. Sichenze.

You might be wondering how Ms. Sichenze spends her free time. Well, its not playing video games because she doesn’t find them interesting. The same can be said about Angry Birds! However, she does like her phone because she likes conversation.

It is hard for her to say what she considers to be her greatest achievement because she has been at P.S. 102 for 28 years, but building trust is what she would say if she had to answer that question.

She said that the PS 102 PTA is truly the best because we work together making the possibilities for our students limitless. What makes Ms. Sichenze most happy is when she sees an adult that she taught 28 years ago on the street and tell her how wonderful their life is or when they bring their children and she is teaching two or three generations.

Congratulations Ms. Sichenze!

Staff Spotlight: Ms. Sichenze

by Hagar

Ms. Sichenze has been working at P.S. 102 for the past twenty seven years. She believes that the most interesting part of her job is the many personalities that she works with. She said, “I enjoy and appreciate the unique teachers and staff at P.S. 102.” Every morning when she gets to work she looks forward to each day because, “PS 102 is home away from home.” Ms. Sichenze feels that the hardest thing about her job is that that there are not enough hours in a day, but she didn’t have anything to say when asked what was the least favorite part of her job.

When asked what has changed most since she began working at PS 102, Ms. Sichenze said that she grew 27 years older, but she doesn’t feel even a day older. Actually, she said that the biggest change is that there used to be Pre-K through 6th grade at PS 102. Oh, and did you know she has known Mrs. Dovi for the past 22 years!

In her spare time, Ms. Sichenze enjoys going bike riding with her husband Joseph. She has tons of friends and she enjoys their company. She also said, “I love to cook and garden and write, but most of all I love spending time with my family.” Ms. Sichenze has 3 children who have all gone to school at PS 102.
